    I’m curious about the evidence that they have that shock stops young people smoking. I understood that smoking is connected to expressions and experiences of rebellion, freedom and adulthood. Here in Singapore local research found that young women are using it as an expression of their emancipation. How are powerful drivers like these affected by shock? In fact doesn’t the shock add to the tantalizing sense that you’re free to do something dangerous? I feel a sense of moral righteousness as the key driver in their communication. The desire to help people change behaviour is not clear to me.
